In 2021 we cultivated a space for queer, trans and non-binary artist to gather together and explore their intersections in our “Storyboards” program. We offered mentors, instructors, equipment, space and most importantly support. These are their stories, this is what they want you to know…

Joy Nortei

Joy (she/her) is a fried plantain enthusiast, Beyoncé fan (not one of the mean ones who fight online) and self proclaimed cat whisperer from Ghana who grew up in North York and Brampton. She has dedicated herself to her communities and envisions a world where Black and Indigenous people are liberated with the full freedom to show up exactly as we are and be our whole selves

Michelle Natalie Smith

Michelle Natalie Smith is a Black woman and a first-generation Canadian of Jamaican heritage. Raised in the Greater Toronto Area, Michelle began her creative journey as a visual artist in high school and continues to experiment using mediums such as photography, watercolor and acrylic paints, and printmaking. As a lawyer, she is passionate about advancing human rights, as well as anti-racism and anti-oppression work. As a poet, she writes about themes of love, justice, spirituality, and self-actualization. As an artist, she creates whatever her soul is drawn to and whatever her heart desires.
