PROJECT SUMMARY

Our Stories Our Voices is a multi-year project that aims at engaging Black LGBTQ+ individuals in Toronto and across Canada. This project aims to specifically work to identify and prioritize Black Trans, non-binary, queer individuals and communitities, and engage them through mental health & wellness programming, leadership development, and gatherings. This project is made possible through a partnership of Across Boundaries & Adornment Stories funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Across Boundaries provides equitable, inclusive and holistic mental health and addiction services for racialized people across the Greater Toronto Area. Across Boundaries works from an anti-racism and resisting anti-Black-racism lens and are committed to providing Dignified, inclusive and compassionate mental health and addiction services for all racialized communities.

Adornment Stories is a collective of Black women, femme, queer and non-binary artists, educators and change makers who work to cultivate spaces for individuals to safely tell their stories. Through storytelling, facilitation training, and the arts, the team works to provide a platform for those who are often left out of traditional mental health discourses.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Administrator is responsible for coordination and implementation of Our Stories Our Voices programming. This role works closely with community participants and is responsible for the day-to-day logistical planning and coordination of the program components including: virtual programming, leadership development workshops, retreats, masterclasses, facilitation, and community engagement initiatives.  This position liaises with Across Boundaries & Adornment Stories, ensuring programs meet the needs of the communities we service. 

The position requires content & curriculum development, training, and facilitation experience. Specifically, the successful candidate will have experience developing and delivering training and capacity building—preferably direct experience in community-driven education.

This position requires strong interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills, ability to connect with service users, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision in accomplishing objectives within targeted timeframes. A successful candidate prioritizes safe space for Black LGBTQ+ community while using strong administrative skills to maintain daily operations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan & Coordinate key components of the project: train-the-trainer program, mental health retreat, virtual programing series, mental health masterclass, and a community symposium

  • Develop & Implement project curriculum guide 

  • Implement and facilitate regular programing

  • Provide mentorship and one-on-one support to project’s community leadership cohort and program participants 

  • Act as point of contact for program participants

  • Lead program outreach and work collaboratively with Adornment Stories and Across Boundaries to engage with community members

  • Lead in the day-to-day administrative tasks in relation to programming and events.

  • Utilize creative and proven strategies for community engagement and creating safer spaces

  • Coordinate the logistics of each project component including workplanning, space & personnel bookings, and liaising with program participants

  • Work collaboratively with Operations Coordinator & Project Managers to achieve major project objectives in a timely manner.

  • Engage with consultants and external contractors periodically 

  • Disseminate & collect project evaluation tools periodically

  • Other related duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Degree or College Diploma in  Social Work, Psychology, Equity, or Gender Studies, Youth Worker, Social Service, Social Science or other related fields 

  • 5+ years facilitation experience 

  • 3+ years project coordination, curriculum development/implementation and/or programming experience 

  • Lived experience within Black & LGBTQ+ communities

  • Experience engaging youth and persons with lived experience in a mental health & wellbeing context, & prior experience working with Black LGBTQ+ communities

  • Experience with the mental health, public health, or community health sectors preferred

  • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language an asset.

  • G/G2 licence and ability to travel an asset

REMUNERATION & HOURS OF WORK

$30/hr paid bi-monthly

PT 20 hours a week. Flexible schedule + Guaranteed hours. 

CONTRACT START

November 8, 2021  (Approx). 90 day probationary period.
