Welcome, and thank you for your interest in joining the Adornment Stories Collective Board of Directors!
We inspire and equip Black women, youth, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities across Canada to reclaim their stories, nurture mental wellness, and advance collective care for stronger wellbeing through transformative, art-rooted programming.
This survey is designed to help us get to know your unique profile, skills, and passion for our work. We’re committed to building a diverse, collaborative Board with a range of lived experiences, professional backgrounds, and talents. We’re excited to learn more about what you bring to the table.
The application process will take approximately 30-45 minutes. The Interview process will begin in January 2026 on a rolling basis. If you have any questions about either board or need accessibility support please email info@adornmentstories.com

What is an Advisory Board Member?
Role:
Advisory Board members serve as trusted advisors who offer guidance, expertise, and strategic insights to strengthen the work of the organization.
Key Functions:
Provide recommendations on strategy, programming, partnerships, and organizational development
Offer specialized knowledge or networks that support the mission and enhance decision-making
Serve as thought partners to the Board of Directors and the Executive Team
Authority:
Non-governing: Advisory Board members do not have legal responsibility
Non-decision-making: They do not vote on organizational matters or make binding decisions
Their role is consultative, meaning that they influence but do not govern
What is a Board of Director?
The Board of Directors is the formal governing body of Adornment Stories and is responsible for the organization’s oversight, legal compliance, and strategic leadership.
Key Functions:
Set the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term strategic direction
Approve budgets, financial plans, and major organizational decisions
Hire, evaluate, and support executive leadership
Ensure the sustainability and overall health of the organization
Authority:
Full legal responsibility for the organization
Decision-making power: They vote on and approve policies, budgets, and strategic actions
Their decisions are binding and define the direction of Adornment Stories
